Risks to Children from Water Fluoridation—One Dose Does Not Fit All

By Amanda Just, MS, and David Kennedy, DDS,  from CHD’s Partner: International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT)

Fluoridation is the addition of an industrial compound to the public drinking water for the purpose of altering the consumer’s oral health. Municipalities that add fluoride to their water supplies do so based on a “one dose fits all” approach.  This blanket approach fails to address the smaller size of infants and children and the larger proportions of water and other fluoridated beverages they drink.

Significantly, a formula-fed infant drinks its weight in water every three to four days, resulting in the most vulnerable members of the population consuming by far the largest dose of fluoride.

[embedded content]

Fluoridation advocates have acknowledged that fluoride’s predominant effects for growing decay-resistant, harder teeth come from topical use (i.e., applying it directly onto teeth) as opposed to systemic exposure (i.e., drinking or ingesting fluoride through water or other means). However, research also has indicated that fluoride does not aid in preventing pit and fissure decay (the most prevalent form of tooth decay in the U.S.) or in preventing baby bottle tooth decay (prevalent in less affluent communities). In malnourished children and individuals of lower socioeconomic status, fluoride may actually increase the risk of dental caries due to calcium depletion and other circumstances. Given this body of research—and Harvard experts’ warning that fluoride is one of 12 industrial chemicals known to cause developmental neurotoxicity in human beings—why do public health officials persist in claiming that water fluoridation is either necessary or safe?

[Researchers] found that the reasonable maximum exposure estimates exceeded the upper tolerable intake and concluded that some children may be at risk for fluorosis.

Overexposure and Dental Fluorosis

Exposure to excess fluoride in children is known to result in dental fluorosis, a condition in which the tooth enamel becomes irreversibly damaged and the teeth become permanently discolored, displaying a white or brown mottling pattern and forming brittle teeth that break and stain easily. Dental researchers have identified dental fluorosis as a first sign of fluoride toxicity.

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released in 2010, 41% of children aged 12-15 exhibit fluorosis to some degree, up from 23% of 12-15-year-olds in 1986 (see figure below). These increases in rates of dental fluorosis were a factor in the U.S. Public Health Service’s 2015 decision to dramatically lower its water fluoridation level recommendations, from a high of 1.2 milligrams per liter (mg/L) down to 0.7 mg/L.

The downward revision of the Public Health Service’s recommendations for fluoride concentrations in drinking water fails to account for the fact that children are exposed to many different sources of fluoride on a daily basis. Exposure to these diverse sources has drastically increased since community water fluoridation began in the U.S. in the 1940s. In addition to water and other beverages, fluoride exposure occurs through food, air, soil, dental products used at home and in the dental office, endocrine-disrupting chemicals and through an array of other sources.

Several studies conducted in the United States have offered data about children’s exposure to multiple sources of fluoride, as well as warnings about the situation. Markedly, a study published in 2015 by researchers at the University of Iowa considered exposure from water, toothpaste, fluoride “supplements” and foods. The researchers found that there was considerable individual variation in exposure levels and offered data showing that some children exceed the alleged “optimal” range. Highlighting the problematic nature of issuing recommendations about fluoride intake, the authors concluded:

[I]t’s doubtful that parents or clinicians could adequately track children’s fluoride intake and compare it [to] the recommended level, rendering the concept of an “optimal” or target intake relatively moot.

A similar 2005 study by researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago evaluated children’s fluoride exposure from drinking water, beverages, cow’s milk, foods, fluoride “supplements,” toothpaste swallowing and soil ingestion. They found that the reasonable maximum exposure estimates exceeded the upper tolerable intake and concluded that “some children may be at risk for fluorosis.”

… research completed by Dr. Elise Bassin while at Harvard School of Dental Medicine showed that exposure to fluoride at ‘recommended’ levels correlated with a seven-fold increase in osteosarcoma in boys who had been exposed between the ages of five and seven.

Pediatric Cancers and Fluoride

In 2006, the National Research Council (NRC) issued a report discussing the potential link between fluoride exposure and osteosarcoma. This type of bone cancer is one of the most common groups of malignant tumors in children and adolescents. The NRC stated that while the evidence was as of yet tentative, fluoride appeared to have the potential to promote bone cancers; the authors also cited biological plausibility due to “fluoride’s deposition into bone and its mitogenic effects on bone cells.” A mitogen is a chemical substance that triggers cell division (mitosis)—and cancer represents mitosis that has run amok.

While some epidemiological studies have failed to find an association between fluoride and osteosarcoma, research completed by Dr. Elise Bassin while at Harvard School of Dental Medicine showed that exposure to fluoride at “recommended” levels correlated with a seven-fold increase in osteosarcoma in boys who had been exposed between the ages of five and seven. Bassin’s research, published in 2006, is the only study about osteosarcoma that has taken age- and sex-specific risks into account.

… discussion has ensued as a result of several research studies published in 2018 that linked fluoride to underactive thyroid, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other adverse impacts on health and behavior.

Other Adverse Impacts

A large number of studies associate fluoride with loss of IQ. For example, a landmark study published in 2017 (funded by the National Institutes of Health) found that prenatal fluoride exposure was strongly associated with lower scores on tests of cognitive function in the offspring. Interestingly, silicofluoride—the fluoride compound used in the vast majority of water fluoridation schemes—has been associated with higher blood lead levels in children, and lead is known to lower IQ. Lead has also been linked to violent behavior, and research likewise supports the potential association of silicofluoride with violence.

Meanwhile, discussion has ensued as a result of several research studies published in 2018 that linked fluoride to underactive thyroid, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other adverse impacts on health and behavior.

Protect our Children, Protect our Water

While adding a developmental neurotoxin to the water supply endangers everyone in the community, infants and children are obviously at highest risk for harmful effects. In addition to the potential adverse outcomes for this susceptible population discussed above (cancer, IQ loss and thyroid dysfunction), water fluoridation poses other health risks such as arthritis, bone fractures and learning disorders. We need to protect our children—and protect our water—by learning the facts and demanding policies that reduce and eliminate avoidable sources of fluoride, including artificial water fluoridation.

Can You Fail a Drug Test After Taking CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a non-psychoactive compound produced by the marijuana plant that seems to be everywhere these days. Maybe you’ve even been asked if you’d like it added to your morning cup of joe!

Interestingly, the chemical structure of CBD is very similar to THC, which is the marijuana-derived compound responsible for getting people high and the one screened for by drug tests.

When Will The Collective Voices Of The World’s Populations Regarding Mandatory Vaccination Mandates Be Heard & Not Violated Daily?

By Catherine J. Frompovich

With great respect for all who are in the ultimate “fight for healthful lives and medical freedoms,” I bring you the exceptional video sponsored by Attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his Children’s Health Defense titled “Vaccine Mandate Legislation Update.”

Mr. Kennedy synthesizes the global vaccine safety movement, which is totally captivating, especially in view of the fact the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) along with Big Pharma’s corporate lobbyists are pushing hard to have every last human on the fact of the earth vaccinated. Why, when their paradigm of artificial ‘immunity’, if you can call it that due to chemical castration of the innate immune system, is to create the pharmacological version of the immune system called “Adaptive Immunity.”

Adaptive immunity refers to antigen-specific immune response[1], which means life-long booster shots are necessary to keep that ‘adaptive immunity’ active because the innate immune system has, for all intents and purposes, been castrated, tagged or “turned off,” thus responsible for contraindications and adverse reactions to vaccines, especially involving mitochondria cells.

Vaccine adverse reactions are validated by the CDC’s very own VAERS reporting system for vaccine adverse health reactions, plus the HHS HRSA Claims Payouts, now totals over $4.1 BILLION per Vaccine Compensation Data Monthly Stats to May 2019, Pg. 9.

Adaptive Immunity basically is the CDC/FDA and Big Pharma messing around with human biology to castrate the immune system which, in effect, reprograms the evolutionary natural mechanisms of human physiology and immunity to become ‘captives’ of chemical adjuvants, i.e., aluminum, ASO4[2], in vaccines.

As a result of that devious consensus vaccinology science, great harms have been perpetrated upon two generations of global children since 1986—anything from ASIA (autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants) to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to various types of cancers, now the second primary cause of death in young children: After accidents, cancer is the second leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 14.”

People around the United States, plus other vaccine-mandated countries, by the thousands, if not millions, now are pushing back on repressive mandatory vaccination laws introduced and/or enacted in their locations. The video below documents an ever-growing movement to retain our rights to self-determination and medical freedoms, if freedom still exists within the New World Order paradigm.

What’s The Difference Between REAL Science & CONSENSUS Science?

By Catherine J. Frompovich

REAL science is exemplified by demonstrable scientific findings like those of Copernicus and Galileo, who basically were called “quacks” by none other than the ruling authority of that time, the Roman Catholic Church, for insisting the Sun was the center of the Universe, not Planet Earth. Each suffered organized oppression by the Church, too.

Galileo’s books were banned from being read! Anything sound familiar in these censoring times?

Copernicus and Galileo: A Scientific Revolution

[embedded content]
https://youtu.be/y-XiG8S4o_A?t=26

REAL science also is found in the work of Sir Isaac Newton. An apple never can fall up! Newton’s Law of Universal Gravitation.

REAL science also can be found in the dabblings of the colonialist founding father Benjamin Franklin’s flying a kite in a rainstorm! That ‘foolhardy’ exercise led to the invention of the lightning rod and also understanding negative and positive charges.

The Periodic Table of Elements went from a “dream” by Russian chemist Dmitrii Mendeleev to a set table of the properties of individual elements, now complete [at least for the time being] as REAL science.

Real science is the standardized practice of questioning, researching, finding and reporting the “secrets” of how and what “makes things work” without any influences to deviate from those findings.

Consensus science is a relatively new science ‘discipline’ invading all sorts of vested interests, corporations and businesses such as: pharmaceuticals [Examples: Vioxx and neurotoxic vaccines]; chemical companies [Example: Monsanto Roundup® glyphosate]; the microwave industries—anything from military radar to microwave ovens, cell phones, 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), and medicine [Examples: the War on Cancer, Autism, superbugs from excessive antibiotic prescribing; the opioid epidemic!]

“Consensus,” according to Merriam-Webster, means both “general agreement” and “group solidarity in sentiment and belief.” That sums up the problem. Is this consensus based on solid evidence and sound logic, or social pressure and groupthink? [Like at the CDC/FDA and Big Pharma.]

[….]

When can you doubt a consensus? Your best bet is to look at the process that produced, defends and transmits the supposed consensus.

Source: https://stream.org/doubt-scientific-consensus/

[Also, consider who is paying for the ‘freight’ to produce the science?]

CONSENSUS science rears its unfettered ugliness in dramatic reversals of real science findings, which had to be sanitized and reformulated with actions taken by the CDC/FDA and Big Pharma.

Here are just a few examples:

June 2000 The Simpsonwood Meeting where CDC epidemiologist Thomas Verstraeten’s findings that certain vaccines DID cause Autism were discussed to change the outcome of Verstraeten’s original real science findings into a consensus science that no vaccine is capable of causing Autism, an elitist epidemiological ‘dogma’ which never can be challenged! The transcript of that clandestine meeting is here: http://fearlessparent.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Simpsonwood_Transcript_Scan_by_RJK_OCR.pdf

The Poul Thorsen, MD, PhD, / CDC’s Eileen Boyle, PhD, debacle
Dr. Coleen Boyle surfaces again in this featured story about Poul Thorsen, PhD, the MASTER MANIPULATOR who currently is under eleven (11) indictments regarding wire fraud and money laundering, and for ripping off the U.S. CDC to the tune of between One and Two MILLION Dollars.

Thorsen also used Danish demographics he was not permitted to use for his falsified study that the MMR vaccine does not cause autism.

Dr. Boyle was aware of that sticky-wicket issue about not getting Danish permission to use certain demographics, etc., but flew to Denmark to ‘save the deal’. It’s documented in the book, Master Manipulator. https://www.activistpost.com/2019/04/if-truth-be-told-about-cdcs-science-manipulators.html

• Whistleblower William Thompson, PhD, collaborated with, but rejected, the ultimate in CONSENSUS science when he exposed the CDC’s requirement to destroy all science by discarding their findings into a trash can the CDC provided! However, real science found the MMR vaccine actually CAUSED Autism in young black boys under three years of age, which was featured in the documentary VAXXED, From Cover-up to Catastrophe. https://www.activistpost.com/2019/04/if-truth-be-told-about-cdcs-science-manipulators.html

Washington, DC area constitutional attorney Jonathan Emord, who understands the law and how it applies to government officials and agencies, was totally aghast by the remarks he received from an FDA lawyer/attorney. Emord has authored two well argued, erudite books: Global Censorship of Health Informationand The Rise of Tyranny—How Federal Agencies Abuse Power and Pose Risks to Your Life and Liberty, regarding federal bureaucratic legal mischief. Emord says, “FDA refuses to honor five decisions holding its censorship unconstitutional.” [2]

Attorney Emord goes on to say that an attorney in the FDA Chief Counsel’s office regarding a court order to the FDA made this really shocking statement, “Jonathan, the FDA will never abide by the Pearson decision.” [3]

Despite Jonathan’s noting it was a final and binding decision—an order of the court—the FDA attorney said, “That may be so, but I am telling you the FDA will never abide by that court decision, never, ever.” [4]

Emord goes on to tell us, His words pierced to the very core of my being. Here was an agency’s legal officer telling me that the agency was, intentionally, lawless.” [5]
https://www.activistpost.com/2016/10/cdc-flagrant-refusal-of-subpoena-nothing-new-regarding-vaccine-coverup-fraud.html

So, there’s a very real conundrum as to why U.S. federal agencies and corporations can practice CONSENSUS science, but pawn it off as REAL science.

How has this been allowed to happen, especially if there is another agenda, e.g., to change society’s understanding and acceptance of a once hallowed concept for research, which now has been trashed into nothing short of fraudulent science to promote advertising, billions of sales and ultimate obedience to control mechanisms?

Ben & Jerry’s to Start Selling CBD-Infused Ice Cream as Soon as Possible

By Emma Fiala

Ben & Jerry’s, the Vermont-based occasionally political ice cream company, is ready to jump into the CBD game as soon as the non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid is legal in all 50 U.S. states. As of now, an FDA regulation prevents the cannabidiol from being added to both food and beverages.

The company announced on Thursday its “commitment to including CBD in its ice cream innovations,” in a press release.

While it may seem like the logical next step for a company manufacturing flavors such as Cherry Garcia, Half Baked and Magic Brownies, the issue is less about expanding on those groovy flavors and more about the fact that activism is “in the DNA of Ben & Jerry’s,” according to 2018 CNBC interview with CEO Matthew McCarthy.

Organically Grown CBD Oil and Products Available (Ad)

Ben & Jerry’s is poised to jump on the CBD bandwagon as soon as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows. It is currently illegal under the Food Drug & Commerce Act to add CBD or THC to food and to market it as a dietary supplement.

However, some states are independently dealing with the legality of CBD-infused foods and beverages. Earlier this week, the Arizona Supreme Court unanimously ruled that cannabis extracts—including infused food and beverages—are legal in the state. But for a manufacturer that produces products sold nationwide, the idea has to wait on the back burner until given a green light by the feds.

This isn’t the first time Ben & Jerry’s has mentioned the possibility of adding the cannabidiol to ice cream. Back in 2015, founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield spoke with HuffPost Live and hinted at the possibility.

“Makes sense to me,” Cohen said at the time. “Combine your pleasures.”

Barring any hiccups in the process, Ben & Jerry’s may not have to wait much longer. A public hearing is set to take place today, May 31st, to discuss the full legalization of CBD, to which Ben & Jerry’s has submitted comment.

FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said the move is part of a larger effort to build “lawful pathways by which appropriate products containing cannabis or cannabis-derived compounds can be marketed.”

Hopefully the FDA will consider Ben & Jerry’s CBD-infused ice cream to be an appropriate product. And when that happens, Ben & Jerry’s will likely source the CBD used from Vermont, according to the Guardian.

McCarthy said in a statement:

We’re doing this for our fans. We’ve listened and brought them everything from Non-Dairy indulgences to on-the-go portions with our Pint Slices. We aspire to love our fans more than they love us and we want to give them what they’re looking for in a fun, Ben & Jerry’s way.

A message on the Ben and Jerry’s website reads:

You probably already know that we’re fans of all things groovy. So it’s no surprise that we can’t wait to get into the latest food trend: cannabidiol, or CBD. We are committed to bringing CBD-infused ice cream to your freezer as soon as it’s legalised at the federal level.

The company is also urging its fans to contact the FDA to voice their support for modifying the current regulations.

A Philippines Cafe Makes Straws From Coconut Leaves As A Perfect Alternative To Plastic Straws

By Mayukh Saha

Neil Armstrong said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”.  Of course, he was talking about the Moon landing. But considering the present condition our society is in, it could very well apply to us. With the continuous influx of pollutants into our environment, it is high time we take teeny tiny steps ourselves to some solution. It might go a long way towards helping the environment.

And us.

According to a report in 2016, 40 kg of plastic is produced for each of the 7 billion humans every year. It’s no mystery that it will grow. And because of that hundreds and thousands of marine animals continue to fall victim to gruesome deaths.

Plastics are non-biodegradable substances which take centuries to decompose. They clog the throats of marine animals leading to them choking and dying. They also contain harmful chemicals that make the soil infertile for future cultivation.

While plastic straws are not the main contributors to plastic pollution, Americans still use around 500 million straws daily. And at least 8 billion plastic straws end up on beaches globally. Also, plastic straws do comprise 4% of the total plastic waste, which is not negligible.

And that’s why small changes tend to matter a lot.

In the Philippines, the manager of Café Editha in Surigao Del Norte, Sarah Tiu, has chosen to go down the non-plastic route. She never liked plastic anyway. At first, she tried using stainless straws and paper straws to replace plastic straws. Well – the customers weren’t fans of the alternatives. She had to find some other way.

When she went on a trip down to Corregidor Island, she found a way to transform her eco-friendly ideas into action, without causing dissatisfaction among customers. There she learned how to use natural products like cut lukay and fresh buko to make straws. Lukay is coconut fronds and leaves while buko is coconut juice.

Once she learned to make these ‘natural’ straws, her idea was to implement it in her cafe. And she did so. The customers loved it. They started sharing the news, along with pictures, on social media. These straws were biodegradable, but the best part, they did not make any sounds and were leakproof. Customer satisfaction guaranteed!

The straws are easy to make and Tiu has shared pictures of these straws to encourage others to adopt them. She makes them with her workers’ assistance before the store opens in the morning.

How a Quick Walk Turned into a 17-Day Survival Ordeal in the Hawaiian Jungle

By Daisy Luther

More than 2 weeks ago, the news was abuzz about Amanda Eller, a 37-year-old physical therapist/yoga instructor who took a walk in a Maui forest and never came back to where her car was parked. Theories abounded about Amanda because she’d left her water bottle, cellphone, and wallet in her car. People wondered whether she’d been kidnapped or murdered.

The official search was called off after only 72 hours, leaving the hunt for Amanda in the hands of thousands of volunteers who combed the forest.

The Makawao Forest Reserve is a 2000-acre area on the north side of Maui that is surrounded by even more thousands of acres of dense forest, steep ravines, lava rocks, and vegetation so thick that it often must be hacked with machetes to get through it.

There’s a lot we can learn from the survival stories of other people and  Amanda’s story also has many lessons. While I’ll point out a few mistakes, keep in mind that nearly every survival story begins with something going wrong. Amanda survived a situation many people could not, and did so barefoot and with a fractured leg.

How did she get lost in the first place?

Amanda told reporters she didn’t take her water or phone because she was planning only a quick walk. One thing Selco drummed into us during our course is that you don’t even walk across the street without a layer one that contains at the least some water purification tablets, a lighter, a whistle, a trauma bandage, and a knife.

According to news reports, Amanda intended to walk a quick three-mile trail. But when she stopped to rest, she got turned around and that was when things went wrong.

‘I wanted to go back the way I’d come, but my gut was leading me another way — and I have a very strong gut instinct.

‘So, I said, my car is this way and I’m just going to keep going until I reach it.

‘I heard this voice that said, “If you want to live, keep going”.

‘And as soon as I would doubt my intuition and try to go another way than where it was telling me, something would stop me, a branch would fall on me, I’d stub my toe, or I’d trip. So I was like, “O.K., there is only one way to go”.

‘The whole time I was going deeper into the jungle, even though I thought I was going back where I came from. (source)

Unfortunately, her instincts led her astray. Anyone who regularly walks in wild areas should learn the basics of navigation using the sun, or better yet a compass,  (You can get watches that have compasses built in. Be sure to calibrate your compass with a known accurate compass.)

How she survived

Amanda told reporters she hiked for about 14 hours the first day hoping to get back to her car. She was only wearing a tank top and capri pants. Temperatures in that area drop to about 60 degrees at night.

By day 3, she stopped looking for the trailhead and began searching for water. Generally, when you’re lost, water should be a resource you look for sooner due to the immediate risk of dehydration. This was the same day she fell off a cliff and injured her leg, fracturing it and tearing her meniscus. The following day, she found water indeed when a flash flood swept her shoes away. Now, injured and barefoot, she was not moving as fast, and she was crawling instead of walking, but the entire time, she was moving deeper into the jungle. From her hospital bed, she said, “I heard this voice that said, ‘If you want to live, keep going.”

She covered herself with ferns and leaves at night. She slept in the mud, and another night in the den of a wild boar. (It’s interesting to note that boars are the most dangerous wildlife on the island. Aside from boars, there aren’t any large predators.)

She ate wild strawberry guavas, berries, and moths for 17 days. Fortunately, she had learned enough about the local flora to know what she could safely eat. She stayed by a stream, from which she drank water.

But she was beginning to lose hope. “I was getting so skinny that I was really starting to doubt if I could survive,”

The rescue

Even though officials gave up on the search after 72 hours, the locals did not. Volunteer search parties combed the area near where Amanda’s car had been found.

Meanwhile, an army of volunteers turned seemingly every stone looking for her. They rappelled into ravines, searched caves, free-dove into pools and navigated fast-moving streams looking for Ms. Eller. Others killed aggressive wild boars and checked their intestines for human remains. At least one volunteer was attacked by a boar. (source)

A friend of mine in Hawaii joined the search and told me that the volunteers were searching miles and miles on foot, day and night, despite the lack of official support. Finally, by sheer good fortune, Amanda was out in the open when a search helicopter flew over.

Rescue workers had been combing the thickly wooded 1.5-mile radius around Ms. Eller’s car. But on a whim, the searchers in the helicopter on Friday decided to go farther, about seven miles from the central search area by air — the equivalent of 30 miles walking in such rough conditions, said Javier Canetellops, a search coordinator who was in the helicopter…

…On Day 17, Ms. Eller was near a stream searching for “some plant to eat for dinner and some place to sleep that wasn’t directly in the mud” when she saw a helicopter. She said she had seen and heard multiple helicopters fly above her during her ordeal, according to her friend Ms. York, but none had spotted her. This one did.

“I looked up and they were right on top of me,” she said. “I was like, ‘Oh my God,’ and I just broke down and started bawling.” (source)

Here’s the footage of Amanda’s rescue.

[embedded content]

Rescuers say that Amanda was found in an extremely treacherous area, deep in H’aiku’ several miles above Twin Falls. She was immediately airlifted to a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. In the following video, a rescuer described finding Amanda.

[embedded content]

Amanda had a lot to say about the volunteers who searched for her and about her “spiritual journey” while she was lost. Here’s her statement from the hospital.

[embedded content]

And, finally, this is a press conference held at the hospital updating us on Amanda’s condition.

[embedded content]

Amanda walked with a fractured tibia, severe sunburn, infected wounds in her lower extremities, and a torn meniscus. Miraculously, her doctor said she was well-hydrated when she was rescued and that she looks great. She did not contract any issues from drinking water from the stream. Physicians expect a full recovery.

Her doctor chalks up a great deal of her survival to the fact that she was very healthy and well-nourished before her ordeal.

What do you think?

When I heard about this story and a week had gone past, I certainly didn’t expect to hear a happy ending. In nearly every survival situation, mistakes are made. Amanda’s will to live helped propel her through what must have been a terrifying two and a half weeks.

Could you survive 17 days in the wilderness? What do you think of Amanda’s story?

Scientists Are Baffled Why This Group Of Bees Built A Spiral Nest

By Mayukh Saha

Of the 20,000 varieties of bees in existence, the Australian Tetragonula carbonaria is one of the 500 varieties without a stinger. Do you think that makes them defenceless? Well, think again.

If any bug or insect tries to mess with this bee, it gets sprayed with a mixture of wax, plant resin, and mud — thereby being mummified alive. In fact, these bees are known for being in drawn-out battles with other such stingerless neighbors that lead to bee casualties, a regular coup d’etat.

Why such possessiveness, you might ask. Well, after seeing the hive they construct, you wouldn’t anymore. A Reddit sub displayed a picture of T. Carbonaria rearing the young in spiral-shaped towers called brood combs that have thousands of eggs interlinked on the staircase-like structure.

Tim Heard of CSIRO (The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) mentions that the photo on Reddit is simply a single layer of the hive. There could be at least 10-20 layers in all if it was fully developed. One layer, as the photo displayed, is a part of a continuous spiral structure.

The tiny circular pods that make up the comb are the brood cells. This is where the bees develop from eggs to a full-grown bee in 50 days. This has all been mentioned in Heard’s book The Australian Native Bee Book. These cells are created through the secretions of wax from the abdominal glands of worker bees, which then get mixed with the plant resin. This forms a cement-like material called cerumen.

After construction, the cells are provided with provisions as the nurse bees regurgitate enough nutrients for a bee to grow completely. After that, the queen bee lays eggs on all the provisions. And at the end of it all, the cells are capped off, so that the bees can grow in a closed environment.

As one cell gets constructed, worker bees move onto the next. They keep building cells, in a spiral shape. And, as the bees grow up and leave the cells, one can actually see the retreating edge or the empty cavities that they leave behind. The exit usually starts from the center, and the trail moves outwards.

Even though the cavity keeps on increasing at the lower levels, worker bees keep on building over them. Heard figures that if the queen had enough eggs to lay, the entire community would live together at one place indefinitely.

Why is the pattern spiral?

For centuries, almost every beekeeper, or scientist has tried to figure out the reason for the spiral shape of the hive, without any success. Heard has decided to leave it, proclaiming that it could either be adaptive or a random event. He shifts more towards adaptive, for this way of building hives reduces the amount of space required, thereby making the structure even more compact. Also, it helps them allow air to pass through all the layers.

But whatever be the case, it is indeed fascinating.

Through a deep and effervescent experience complimented by an e.e. cummings poem, Dr. Wallace Nichols inspires us to engage in a deeper relationship with nature. Using our oceans as the prime example of how insignificant humans can feel while also being unmistakably connected to the spirit of nature, Nichols urges us to embrace our natural surroundings to live robust and full lives.

Dr. Nichols defines “Blue Mind” as “a mildly meditative state characterized by calm, peacefulness, unity, and a sense of general happiness and satisfaction with life in the moment. It is inspired by water and elements associated with water, from the color blue to the words we use to describe the sensations associated with immersion.

He knows that inspiration comes sometimes through adventures, or simply by walking and talking — other times through writing, images, and art. Science and knowledge can also stoke our fires. But he also knows that what really moves people is feeling part of and touching something bigger than ourselves.

Force Blue Team’s Life-Saving Mission

The Force Blue Team is featured in the visually stunning and inspiring Episode 4 and Episode 5 of the Blue Mind Health docuseries. This will change everything you think you know about our mental well-being and how we take care of our lifeline: the ocean.

FORCE BLUE grew out of a dive trip Jim Ritterhoff and Rudy Reyes took to the Cayman Islands. In the summer of 2015, they traveled to meet their friend Keith Sahm, General Manager of Sunset House  which is the oldest continuously-operated dive resort in the Caribbean. For Ritterhoff and Sahm, experienced recreational divers who’d been reef diving for decades, this was just another week in paradise.

However, for Reyes, a former Recon Marine who had struggled with post-traumatic stress and depression since returning from multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, the experience was nothing short of life changing! “Here’s this trained combat diver,” Ritterhoff remembers. “One of the best, most highly-skilled individuals you’ll ever encounter underwater. Yet, he’d never seen a fish.” For Reyes, like most dive-trained veterans, diving meant hauling 200 lbs. of gear underwater to destroy potentially dangerous targets in the dead of night. What Cayman offered was transformative.

Reyes immediately proposed another trip so he could bring his recon brothers to experience what he had. However, after a few hours of discussion, the three men hatched a larger plan that included combat divers from all branches of service with marine scientists, conservationists, and journalists. “We saw it as an opportunity to do some good not only for our veterans, but for the planet as well. By starting a program that helps veterans and the marine environment, we’re uniting two worlds,” says Ritterhoff.

FORCE BLUE MISSION: To unite the community of Special Operations veterans with the world of marine conservation for the betterment of both. To sum it up: “We are so connected to water. If people don’t care about what they’re putting into the ocean, it’s crazy. It’s unsustainable. Every conservationist works hard to bring this to light. Unless you’re seeing it every day, you don’t fully appreciate how our actions have a consequence. We have to act as a team. We have to work locally, regionally, and globally if we’re going to have a positive effect. There really is no excuse anymore.”

Force Blue Saving Florida’s Coral Reefs!

Importance of coral reefs explains why coral reefs are SO vital – and are under SUCH great threat.

This video from the Force Blue Team website shows that the team is working to save Florida’s coral reefs from the disease that began about four years ago. With the help of the Force Blue Team, Florida may be able to save 2,000 corals instead of just 20 or 200. The reefs add over $7 billion to the state’s economy!

Unfortunately 27% of coral reefs are gone and this number could rise to 60% in the next 30 years.  Force Blue says its mission is to change that outcome. The rescue is an urgent task that requires innovation and collaboration between scientists and veterans that has never been seen before.

Sarah Frangman, the Superintendent of the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary says she would like Florida to become a model. She believes that the rescue of the Florida coral reefs can be an example of the kind of teamwork that can be used to save coral reefs elsewhere since this is a global problem.

Coral Reefs: Rainforests of the Ocean

Force Blue is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) initiative that unites the community of Special Operations veterans with the world of coral reef conservation for the betterment of both. FORCE BLUE gives former combat divers and SOF veterans the chance to experience and explore one of the most critically endangered ecosystems on the planet and to adapt their training and teamwork to aid in its protection.

Force Blue’s mission is vital for the planet.

The Smithsonian Institution’s Corals and Coral Reefs site points out:

Coral reefs are the most diverse of all marine ecosystems. They teem with life, with perhaps one-quarter of all ocean species depending on reefs for food and shelter. This is a remarkable statistic when you consider that reefs cover just a tiny fraction (less than one percent) of the earth’s surface and less than two percent of the ocean bottom. Because they are so diverse, coral reefs are often called the rainforests of the sea.

Coral reefs are also very important to people. The value of coral reefs has been estimated at 30 billion U.S. dollars and perhaps as much as 172 billion U.S. dollars each year, providing food, protection of shorelines, jobs based on tourism, and even medicines. Unfortunately, people also pose the greatest threat to coral reefs. Overfishing and destructive fishing, pollution, warming, changing ocean chemistry, and invasive species are all taking a huge toll. In some places, reefs have been entirely destroyed, and in many places reefs today are a pale shadow of what they once were.

Film: Mercy, Love, and Grace: The Story of Force Blue

Mercy, Love and Grace: The Story of Force Blue chronicles the nonprofit’s first deployment to the Cayman Islands. It is the story of seven (7) Special Operations combat veterans…two U.S. Reconnaissance Marines, one Air Force Pararescueman, a Navy SEAL, an Army Green Beret, a British Royal Marine and one Combat Medic….each struggling with his own transition back to civilian life, coming together on a mission to preserve the planet and restore themselves.

It is the story of the marine scientists, environmentalists, therapists, and filmmakers who came to instruct them for two weeks, but left having learned their own lessons about sacrifice and service. In the end, Mercy, Love and Grace: The Story of Force Blue is the story of passionate people healing across the divide – and the magic that can still be conjured, even in these partisan times, when we are willing to become one team with one fight.

The moving trailer can be seen below:

Blue Mind: Blue Marble: Our Water World

Dr. Nichols’ research and expeditions have taken him to coasts and waterways across North, Central, and South America, to Asia, Africa, Australia, and Europe where he continually finds that the emotional connection to waters of all kinds – rather than force or financial gain – is what keeps his colleagues and collaborators working hard to understand and restore our blue planet.

In each of his talks, Dr. Nichols makes sure that every member of the audience receives a blue marble. At the end of the Organixx podcast, he explained that if the interview had been in person, he would have given each of the interviewers a blue marble.

It is a way to remind people that we live on a big blue marble and that our own health is intimately connected with the health of the oceans, rivers, lakes, bays, creeks, streams – as well as our tap water on which we depend every day for cleaning, flushing, bathing, drinking, and cooking. Our daily lives are TOTALLY dependent on our access to clean water!

Dr. Nichols points out that the waters of the world not only support us physically, but are key to our emotional and mental health – to our Blue Mind.

Roundup® & Glyphosate Exposed For What They Are: Toxic, Disease-causing Chemicals

By Catherine J. Frompovich

Even though Monsanto has been ‘taken down’ via a buy-out by Bayer Pharmaceuticals, the ‘legacy’ of its toxic herbicide, Roundup®, literally has become a chemical scourge upon human health, plus the environment by poisoning soil, ground water, insect pollinators and producing other adverse effects yet to be discovered.

One unsuspecting place glyphosate, the main chemical active in Roundup®, has been scientifically found is in certain vaccines per the Anthony Samsel, PhD, and Stephanie Seneff, PhD, independent, conflict-of-interest-free research on page 15 of the report Vaccines and Glyphosate: A Toxic Combination.

One of the most dedicated, twenty-plus-years independent researcher to exposing the problems with Roundup® is Jeffrey Smith of the Institute for Responsible Responsibility. Jeffrey’s IRT recently produced a documentary about how changing from a standard American diet to an organic, glyphosate-free diet cured a family’s 21 different adverse health conditions, including Autism, which you can see below.
